@AnnaVinnikova

Welcome to the Atlassian Community !!

You might need to change the order of issue type from your issue type scheme.

Make sure Story at first level

Hi @AnnaVinnikova and welcome to the Community!

What you see is default behaviour in Jira. The default issue type from a permission scheme is only used the first time you create an issue in a new project. After that, the tool remembers the last issue type you used.

You can read a more elaborate explanation of how this works in this KB article.

Hope this clarifies!

Hi Anna - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

Jira likes to be "helpful" and give you the last issue type you created/worked on despite the default.

You can see this comment in part from Atlassian for a bug that was reported. This is the order used.

  1. Most recently used issue type in user session
  2. Default issue type in the issue type scheme
  3. Ordering of issues in the issue type scheme

https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-44026

Maybe if you clear your cache/history in your browser it will be back.

It seems the default issue type is not properly set. To fix this and make "Story" the default:

Navigate to the project settings.
Select "Issue Types."
Find the "Story" issue type and look for an option to set it as the default.
Click on the appropriate button or option, often labeled "Set as Default" or something similar.
Ensure that your permissions allow you to make this change. If the issue persists, it might be a good idea to consult with your system administrator.
