In Jira projects the assignee field only appears to let you assign a story or task to one person . Is there anyway to change it to allow multiple assignees. We have some tasks where people need to shadow or work together but we can only assignee one person who gets the notification. We have added a custom second field for second assignee but that doesnt register in jira itself as its just a free text and the second person doesnt then get any automatic updates etc for ticket.
I have had a look at the assignee field itself but it doesnt allow you to edit it
Hello @Anita File ,
Welcome to the community,
Yes there is a way where you can assign multiple assignee to a story/task.
You can follow the below steps:
People field allow you search for and select one or more people from your site.

Hi @Anita File
Use the User Custom field to have this achieved for the requirement and add the same User Custom field in the Notification scheme to get notified of events.
Thanks,

No, the assignee is a single person, because multiple assignees is a disaster in real life and should never be allowed. There should be one single person assigned as the person responsible for dealing with an issue (even if they're just going to delegate the work to others, it's their responsibility). A desire for multiple assignees screams "broken process". Stop doing that.
That said, it's good to have ways to involve other people - use the watchers, or add a custom field that can name a group, team or list of other people. Or just have a rule that all the "developers" in a project are associates of the assignee.
