Dear @Christopher Graff ,
Organizing a collection of work in Jira can be approached in several ways. Since you can't link a task to multiple epics directly, here are some alternative strategies you might consider:
- Labels or Components:Assign a label or component to each task to categorize them based on the project. This way, you can easily filter or search for tasks related to a specific project.
- Custom Fields:Create a custom field (e.g., a multi-select field) to represent the project association. This allows you to tag each task with the relevant project information.
- Parent-Child Relationships: Create a parent task for each project and link the individual app tasks as child tasks. This provides a hierarchical structure where you can see all related tasks under the project parent task.
- Use of Sub-tasks:If the platform upgrade for each app involves multiple steps, you can break down each app task into sub-tasks. Each sub-task could represent a different aspect of the upgrade process.
- Dashboard and Filters: Leverage Jira dashboards and filters to create customized views that aggregate tasks based on your criteria. This can help you visualize and manage tasks related to specific projects.
- Epic Hierarchy: While a task can only be linked to one epic, consider creating a hierarchy within the epics. For instance, have a top-level epic for the project and child epics for each app. This way, you can see all tasks related to the project epic.
- Use of Swimlanes:If your team uses Kanban boards, consider setting up swimlanes based on the project. This visually separates tasks on the board, making it easy to distinguish between different projects.
- Prefixes or Naming Conventions: Include a project identifier in the task summary or title. For example, you can start each task related to a specific project with a project code or name.
- Integration with Confluence:Use Confluence pages to document and link related tasks. Create a page for each project and link to the tasks from there.
Choose the approach that aligns best with your team's workflow and preferences. A combination of these methods might also be effective in providing a comprehensive overview of your work.
