If I Hide a Project, will the name disappear from a saved Project Picker custom field?

We have created a custom field as a Project Picker type, we call it "Associated Project".  We would like to archive (e.g. Hide) completed projects in JIRA but not lose the project name where once added to issues (in non-archived projects).

Does anyone know if I hide a project (as directed by documentation for "archiving"), will the name of the archived project still appear in the custom field on issues (that were created under an active project)?

e.g. I go to Projects, I will not see the hidden project.  I open an issue from an "active" project that was previously linked to the now, hidden project, what will I see?
