Import CSV into Description system field

Przemysław Grzesiak August 18, 2020

I have following problem: after migrating project from cloud into data center instance in one of our projects we realised there are two description fields in the issue, one system field and one custom. Unfortunately users put the descriptions into this custom field so we decided to move the content and we exported Summary, Issue Key and this Description (cf) and then tried to import it mapping Description (cf) with the system description. Import went without any problems, no errors, but the value was not copied, the system field Description was empty. I tried copying it into another field and it went without any problems, values were copied but it doesn't work for description. Has anyone had problem with it?

Hi @Przemysław Grzesiak  - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

I have not done an import like that, but what if you just copied the custom field value into the Description field using Automation For Jira?

4500$ per year to do something that is possible to do by simple import is way to much ;)
It turned out that the import was importing value to the wrong field (still custom field) in spite of the mapping I set, at least as long as the field was on the screen used in the issue. After removing the custom field from the screen the import was successful.

Glad you got it figured out.  :-)

By the way, there is a free version of Automation For Jira called Lite.

Yes, I can see but seems it's not for data center instances, is it?
