Importing CSV file returns fatal error

Susan Alipour June 28, 2019

I am trying to import a CSV file into JIRA, however, I keep getting a Fatal Error warning with no other explanation. I am importing from a Mac and the file has the following fields

  • Project
  • Issue Type
  • Epic Name
  • Summary
  • Campaign Start Date
  • Campaign End Date
  • Program Type

There are no extraneous characters, the file is tab delimited  and the encoding is US-ASCII. The required fields are epic name and summary. It validates with no errors but returns a fatal error.

Here is the log file:

2019-06-29 01:51:28,233 INFO - Importer started!
2019-06-29 01:51:28,236 INFO - Engine is running in Import mode
2019-06-29 01:51:28,469 INFO - All issues will be imported to project: CSM (CSM)
2019-06-29 01:51:28,477 INFO - Creating issue: [externalId='autoid-174812281901397424', summary='Snickers Hunger Hour Cycle 8']
2019-06-29 01:51:28,545 ERROR - Fatal error during import:

Hi @Susan Alipour

May I ask that gou grab the errors directly from the JIRA logs? This may be able to tell us more about what exactly happened as compared to the error summary at times.

Also, may I ask what import method you used?

  • External System Import or
  • Bulk create

The later relies on the create issue screen.

Lastly, I see epic name instead of link. May I ask if you are trying to add issues to specific epics and suggest testing this on a smaller scale using the link instead?

Regards.

The issue was solved with a workflow modification to not require certain fields. It would be helpful if the importer gave an error message instead of indicating a fatal error. The error message would say something like: Import error due to workflow required fields: Your workflow requires certain fields to be populated for the created issues.
