Importing Into Excel Using Jira Cloud Causes Weird Date Formatting

Talha Shah November 22, 2022

Im using the Jira Cloud add-on on excel and have been running into an issue where certain issues are treated as date format and are incorrectly formatted when I import from Jira. For example, the project key is SEP and an issue can be SEP-100, which works fine. When I try importing SEP-2944 excel considers this as September 29, 2044 and shows as SEP-44 in excel. How can I format my excel column to not auto convert the imported Jira data into a date format?

@Talha Shah

Not always handling data correctly is just one of the downsides of the Jira Cloud for Excel add-in. I collected some more here and how to overcome them.

Since the add-in doesn't tell Excel exactly how to format data coming from certain fields, it's up to Excel to format the data. You would need to manually format the cells or the entire column correctly.
