Importing a JIRA project from server to cloud

Henry Snijders

The purpose is to export a specific problem from JIRa server into  (new) JIRa cloud

In the helpsection it says:

"Importing an export file containing activeobjects.xml and entities.xml will erase all existing data and replace it with data from your backup. Likewise, importing a file with the attachments, avatars, or logos directory will overwrite the corresponding data (attachments, avatars, or logos, respectively)."

Does that mean that other projects, like JSD projects will vanish? Anyone has done this before? What are the catches?

Hi Henry,

Thank you for your question.

I can confirm that the built in backup and restore functionality provided by Atlassian simply restores a whole system and will erase all data on the system being imported into as it will only import what was in the source instance where the backup was generated.

You will find the guide which Atlassian produce on importing a project from a Jira Server instance to aa Jira Cloud instances which is located here as a useful reference guide for the process that should be followed.

If this response has answered your question can you please mark it as accepted so that other users can see it is correct when searching for similar answers.

Kristian
