In dashbaord how to order the status based on issue types

Sundar Padmanabhan September 17, 2024

Hi

We have a team managed instance of JIRA. We would want to build a dashboard (two column gadgets) to show issues like story, task, sub-task by status. The order of columns is not in a way we would like it to be. We would want to order it specifically to each issue type.

Please help.

Thanks

Sundar

Hi @Sundar Padmanabhan,

Jira Cloud no longer offers a wallboard gadget. You could search on Atlassian Marketplace for an app that provides such gadget.

If you consider the idea of using an app, the Team Wallboard gadget offered by our Great Gadgets app could be a good solution.

Here is how to do it:

  1. create a filter in Jira that returns the issues that you want to display
  2. create a new kanban board that uses this filter
  3. configure the columns of the new board to map one single status, in the order you want. For example: column To Do maps status To Do, column In progress maps status In progress, column Done maps status Done... do this for all the workflow statuses
  4. You can change the order of the columns as you want
  5. Add the Team Wallboard gadget to your dashboard and configure it to display the new Kanban board

As a result, you will get a gadget showing the issues in every status:

In this example, in green are Stories and Tasks, in yellow are the sub-tasks. if you have epics, they will be displayed in purple.

The gadget supports swim-lanes, so you can choose group the issues by Epic.

Does this help?

@Sundar Padmanabhan Welcome to the Atlassian Community!!!!

I tried configuring the gadgets to see if I could reorder, but no luck.

I would recommend that if reordering the columns (or rows) is a strong requirement that your team has, you look at a plugin like Custom Charts for Jira.  That should let you do what you want.

Otherwise, the only thing I could see is that the issue types are in alphabetical order and the statuses are just randomly showing up . . although I suspect there's some sort of ID that's driving both of these that we can't see or manipulate.
