In the new issue view, I cannot get Custom Field of type "Participants" to display

Switching to the "old view", this works as expected

Verified that:

• This "Participants"  field is added to the screen
• and it is on the "issue layout" in the Project for that screen
• and it is NOT empty

Anybody else encounter this, and is there an explanation or a workaround?
