Initiative as a parent for a story?

We'd like to have our PM team capture Stories under an initiative. Thus stories spanning multiple eng teams are visible to all and eng use epics and tasks to track/complete the work.

Can a story have a parent link field instead of a epic link field?

The typical hierarchy is Initiative > Epic > Story as outlined on Configuring hierarchy levels.

The hierarchy links do not need to be in the same project.
