I followed the setup of the Initiative issue type under the Advanced, Roadmap, Configure Jira Software for Advanced Roadmaps, and noticed a problem.
After creating an Initiative in a Plan, then committing the move of existing Epics under the Initiative, the main Jira UI screen shows a Create Subtask button on the top while viewing the Initiative.
I'm expecting to see "Create issue in Initiative", plus see "Issues in this Initiative" similar to the options on an Epic screen.
There's no way to add new child Epics under an Initiative, outside of the Roadmap.
Is there a way to adjust the screen or hide the create subtask button on the Initiative screen?
welcome to the community!
I totally understand your requirement, however such a "Create Epic within Initiative" button doesn't natively exist in Jira. To move an epic "into" an initiative outside of Advanced Roadmaps, you have to set the "Parent link" field on the epic, like so:
You'll likely have to add the Parent Link to your issue field before.
Just to add to the above - if you're open to solutions from the Atlassian Marketplace, there are apps that greatly simplify the creation of issues within initiatives, without the "overhead" of Advanced Roadmaps.
E.g., here's how this looks in JXL for Jira:
(JXL is a full-fledged table/spreadsheet view that supports inline editing, quick sorting and filtering, issue hierarchies, and much more; more info at https://jxl.app. Disclaimer: I work on JXL :))
Hope this helps,
Best,
Hannes

Hi @Hannes Obweger - JXL for Jira
I appreciate your input.
I had also added the Parent Link field which helps to move epics. I more concerned with the UX problem of creating epics under the initiative in the standard Jira UI. I can't even add more epics in the Child Issues view within an initiative. A + button doesn't exist.
So what I have in Jira is an issue type at the same level as a Story or Task, but Advanced Roadmaps is providing a visual hack to position the initiative type above epics.
I'm not certain of the value of the AR tool beyond occasional exposure to executives, where a high level WBS timeline is an important message to convey.
