Is a team considered a licensed user?

Kelley Gray April 7, 2020

I would like to create teams in Jira however I am not clear if this will be viewed as a separate user and therefore cost me a separate license for each team.  For example, I have 40 people and I would like to put them in teams of 10.  Currently l am using 40 licenses.  By creating 4 teams, will that mean I am using 44 licenses?

No, licenses are always about the users themselves.

You can see this article for more information about teams that describes teams as being attached to the user, not the specific site, like a group.

Thank you @Majken Longlade !  I can see from the information in the links and sublinks that creating someone or inviting someone to your team does not automatically give them a product license or access to content that may be restricted.

Very helpful!
