Is it now "safe" to rename epic safely in data center?

Had been told a while back that there were issues when changing the terminology for Epic in Jira.  Is there a "safe" data center version to rename epic?  If Epic is renamed, can Epic then be used as the parent hierarchy and Jira Issue Type when using with Advanced Roadmaps in a Data Center instance?

It is now safe to rename Epics (I think all the apps that failed when you did it have been fixed, or dropped off the marketplace)

Do not try to do it in the database. Use the UI.

The best way to look at is in the Advanced Roadmaps hierarchy settings, where you can nominate other issue types to work at the Epic level, set others to work higher (and then rename them as you see fit)

What do you mean "Had been told"? Can you please provide more details on this? Are you referring to this change that Atlassian is making?

If you mean renaming the Issue Type "Epic" to another name, I'm not sure if that's possible via the Jira UI. You can certainly rename it using the DB command, but I don't recommend it.
