Hi,
My question is more about what is possible to do or not on the gadget "Two dimensional filters". I'd like to know if and eventually how we can add custom fields to the axis of the gadget.
Context: We recently created custom fields (=number fields) that compute the entries coming from other fields (=text fields)
Ex: Duration -> Month = 3, Week=2, etc and Complexity -> Very Hard=4, Hard=3...
From this we get a value on how to prioritize items.
I'd like to be able to view the values of these fields in the gadget, per project.
Is there a way to add custom fields?
NB: I can still use more specific filters to get the data I want but I really want to know if we can or not add custom fields to gadgets.
Hi @AVB,
Short answer: no. The dimensions in the gadget need to be structured fields, like select lists, labels or components (...) fields.
With some nuance: you can create your own workaround by setting up a select list custom field that has your ranges. Using automation, you could fill out the correct range on your issues when the value of your numeric field changes. Then you can use the calculated range in your select list as a dimension in the gadget, as it would be a supported field. The question is if it's worth the effort ...
Hope this helps!
Thanks a lot Walter! That's all I needed to know. Of course, your workaround is very interesting but worthless in front of the effort..
Thanks again for your feedback.

Hi @AVB
If your team is using the Jira Product Discovery (JPD) tool recently added by Atlassian, there is a matrix view which does exactly what you describe. Please look here to learn more:

Kind regards,

Hi @AVB
not sure if the problem justifies additional tooling for you, but just to put this out there: This should be easy to model using the app that my team and I are working on, JXL for Jira.
JXL is a full-fledged spreadsheet/table view for your issues that allows viewing, inline-editing, sorting, and filtering by all your issue fields, much like you’d do in e.g. Excel or Google Sheets. It also comes with a number of advanced features, including support for (configurable) issue hierarchies, issue grouping by any issue field(s), sum-ups, or conditional formatting.
With these you can model a view like the one below in just a couple of clicks:
Complexity and Duration are custom fields of type number.
Any questions just let me know,
Best,
Hannes
