Is it possible to limit the number of characters displayed in a search result?

I am choosing to display the description in my search results as I need to see a bit more about what the task is about. The problem is, some of the task descriptions are very large! this is necessary for the task.. but I do not necessarily want to see this massive description in my search results. 

Is it possible to limit the number of characters displaying on the search results to 255 for example so it cuts off the description and shows '...' and when i open the task then I can see the full description?
