Is it possible to perform esign on a screen that pops up when moving to the next status?

I have to second Alex here.

Out of the box it's not possible. In the past we've used this app (https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1211601/electronic-signatures?hosting=cloud&tab=overview) to do this.

When transitioning you add the (new) custom fields to the screen and it will block you from transitioning unless you sign it (for use we used AD credentials on DC).

All signatures are then tracked and traced.

There are many apps out there doing the same so I suggest to install one or a couple in trial and see which one fits you best. But either way you'll have to use an app for it.

Out of the box you can't. So you have two options imo:

1. You create a self transition called "Sign Document" where the user clicks on it and you consider this transition (timestamp) as their signature (you can also capture their username and date on a field)
2. You can search the marketplace for an app which will do what you want. Take a look here https://marketplace.atlassian.com/search?query=e%20sign
