Is it possible to sort "Epic Link" dropdown alphabetically?

We recently upgraded from the 8.13.9 LTS t0 8.20.7 LTS and in the new version users have noticed that the "Epic Link" field is no longer sorted alphabetically, but is now sorted by "id."

For example, if I click the "Create" button to create a new story, the Epic Link combo box now sorts by ID rather than alphabetically.

I found this post from 2018, where it shows that at the time, it was sorted alphabetically.

Is it possible to change this back to sorting alphabetically?

Has the upgrade to 8.20.7 decreased significantly the UX of the epic picker? E.g. are users unable to find interesting epics? Have you noticed any other changes?

I would love to hear more.

Seems my last reply didn't stick, so I'll try again (sorry if this ends up as two replies).

I appreciate the link to the public ticket and certainly the rationale for improving performance is great.  We're a small team with <50 open epics, so we're clearly not your target audience with that improvement.  I feel bad for the Jira admin with 100,000 epics.
