Is there a reason an isue can be split only from the list view and not the detailed view?

Only right clicking a context menu permits splitting.

Splitting? This isn’t something I am not familiar with. Please share more and maybe I can test it out.

Go into the backlog view, and you will see a list of the issues. Right click and you will see a context menu with an option "Split issue"

cool. I never have noticed that before. Might be useful at some point in my life.

As to your question I can't say for sure. It seems like most of the options on the right-click do exist in the detail view. I would have to say they just have not implemented it in that view. I did check jira.atlassian.com for any reported suggestions but did not find anything.
