Hi all,
We are currently doing some changes to our Jira instance by deleting, updating and replacing some custom fields which were created many years ago.
Since these fields have been created a long time ago by a former colleague, this "tribal knowledge" is unfortunately not accessible anymore.
The safe option would be for me to check every single filter, automation rule, board, dashboard, workflow validators/conditions, etc. to find if these custom fields are referenced in there. But that would be quite time consuming, as you probably can imagine...
Therefore my question - is anyone aware of a tool or feature which would help with this problem? It would make my task much easier!
Any other suggestion is also more than welcome. Thanks!
One low-effort approach is to rename the field XYZ to "Deprecated XYZ" and see what feedback you get. That should not break anything, except scripts that look up the field by name. Another phase is to move those fields to a new tab named Deprecated and wait for feedback.
Custom Fields admin also has the Last Used column that may help
But to do the job thoroughly does usually need DB queries in Data Center, or a backup dump of Cloud. I don't know of tools that will find all the uses of a custom field. Perhaps people have used ScriptRunner for this?
