Is there a way to report on percentage complete of sub-tasks?

jdreizler October 1, 2018

I have a project called "Project Registry" I have an issue type called SDLC where each issue is an approved project.  I have created a new sub task type which will be used for the creation of each of the project documents necessary for auditing purposes.  Is there a way to report on percentage complete of individual sub tasks?

For example Project A requires a "Project Charter", "Master Test Plan" and a "Requirements Document"  If I have a sub task for each how can I report as each of the documents are created (sub-tasks completed)?

Well, it depends on what you're expecting to get as a report, and what tools you've got at your disposal:

  • Just Jira Core: Export to CSV from the issue navigator and work on a spreadsheet to build your chart or report.
  • Jira Software: You've got several alternatives: a) Create a board and base swimlanes on stories (Subtasks would be grouped under their respective parents). b) Create a board and base estimates on issue count (or time, using a fixed unit) ensuring the estimates of subtasks roll up to their parent. c) Move all issues one step up in the hierarchy: Use Epics instead of SDLC (depending on your Jira version, you might even rename Epic with anything else) and standard issues instead of subtasks. Create a Kanban board set to show a backlog and Epics on the sidebar. After that, you may monitor progress from the backlog and view the Epic Report for any given project, as well.
  • ScriptRunner: You may: a) Create a Scripted Field that calculates the percentage you need each time it is set to be shown. b) Use one or more advanced JQL functions to get a list of issues having a certain percentage of completed subtasks.

Would you like to dive deeper on any of these options?

Hello,

I believe that the following plugin can give you the functionality you are looking for:

Weekdone Jira Reporting and Dashboard

They provide several custom reports, including percentage report that you can use with queries applied only to sub-tasks if you want.
