Is there a way to see subtasks made in one project, but assigned to another using sprint boards?

Devan Bretz March 25, 2024

I cannot seem to find subtasks that I create in one project, then assign to another project using a sprint board. I can see subtasks in the backlog that were created within it's project, but if I assign a subtask from a different project, it will not appear in the backlog.

Even when I check the filter for the board, it shows the subtask in question. Even after seeing it, I will go back to the backlog and not see it there. Where is the disconnect?

The first picture shows the subtask in question. The next shows it in the project I need to see it, but within it's filter. The last is in the backlog f the target project without the subtask.

Hello @Devan Bretz

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

The subtask will display in the board/backlog only if its parent issue is also displayed within the board/backlog. Is the subtask's parent issue within the scope of the filter?

Subtasks can't be assigned to Sprints independently from their parent issue. Subtasks are considered inherently part of their parent issue - the two are not independent when working with Sprints. You will not be able to assign Subtasks to sprints in another board. You will have to assign the parent issue to the sprint.

Can you explain to us the problem you are trying to solve by showing a Subtask in another board, separate from its parent issue?

Thank you so much for this reply. This is exactly what I was looking for.
