Is there a way to set the default Report to someone is not the current user?

Sili Zhao February 27, 2020

Hi there,

When creating a ticket, the reporter always has a default value that is set to the current user.

Is there a way to set the default value to a different user from our team?

I know it sounds easy but no readily available solution was found in any searches online (at least no native solutions, haven't tried any apps). I have tried to use post functions but it does not seem to work, and I can't find anything in the project settings as well.

Thanks in advance for your help!

We use JIra cloud so there is no way for us to change the code.

Hello @Sili Zhao

Thank you for reaching out.

Until the last month, it was not possible to set default values for the Reporter field in Jira, as you can see in the feature request below:

Default values of system fields

However, Atlassian acquired the third-partner Codebarrel, which provides an automation app that allows you to achieve what you need.

The implementation of this app is being achieved in batches for Jira Cloud sites, so you can check under your Project settings if you already have the menu Project Automation:

If you already have it, you can create the following rule to properly set the reporter of issues to a different value from the user that created it:

Let us know if you have any questions or if you were not able to find the mentioned menu.
