Is there an API for the release tool available?

View release information for an issue

If your administrator has connected Jira Software to a compatible release tool, a releases panel will be displayed on the View Issue screen.

Rather working with a release tool. Is there also an API available that provides similar information?
Or could we develop our own compatible release tool?

Hi @mat jung welcome to the Atlassian Community. Lo and behold, we had a similar question asked on the Developer Community forums:

(the answer on the thread above even includes a YouTube link to a talk given by one of our senior Jira architects at Atlas Camp in fall 2019)

Upshot: Yes, there is a Deployments API resource as part of the Jira Software Cloud API:

So, these methods are only accessible to Connect apps that include the Deployment module.

I am not sure if the Deployment API is what I was looking for. I will give it a chance and thanks for pointing to the documentation of Jiras REST API.
I will have to create an Atlassian Connect apps to find out.

The title of the YouTube sounds like the right thing.
