Is there an easier way to edit file attachments than download, edit and upload?

If I want to edit a document e.g. Word or Excel attached to an issue, I need to

  • download
  • edit
  • save a copy
  • upload
  • delete the original attachment

Is there a better way to deal with attached documents?
