Hi,
i wonder if there is really no downtime if i update Jira Software via the install button in the administrative interface. Even if i update a add-on there is small downtime. But the following documentation says there is no downtime (see section conclusion):
https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirakb/how-to-update-jira-properly-794365148.html
Thank you for your help.
Hi Frank,
The zero downtime upgrade is for Jira Data Center, because you would have other nodes to fall back on.
Have a look here for the various upgrade methods and which versions are supported:

Hi Shannon,
Thank you for your reply.
Do you know if users can still access the userinterface while an update is running but with limited functionality? What happens if users working in Jira Software when an update starts?
I'm not sure but I think I can remember that the application is continue running during an update of Jira Software after the update was startet via install button in the administrative interface.

Frank

Hi Frank,
One thing first - the article you posted first was actually only for versions of Jira Software between 7.0.0 and 7.1.10. Most of these versions are already not supported anymore, so we are removing that article. Thank you for bringing it up.
Secondly, for the upgrade procedures (both installer and manual) it requires that you fully stop Jira before proceeding. If Jira is not stopped, the installer will stop it, thus causing Jira to go down. At one point in the past, it was possible to upgrade in the manner that you're referring to, which is why that article existed originally. Currently it is no longer possible.
I hope that clarifies things for you! Let me know if you have any questions.
Regards,
Shannon
