Issue is moved to an old sprint

We have an issue where users will try to move a story from an Active Sprint by using the option to right click and Remove from Sprint. When they are asked to confirm, an old Sprint from a board that has been deleted is displayed. If the user selects OK, then the sprint is created on the board and the story is present.

What is causing this?

Hi Thomas,

When you right click on an issue in an active sprint board and choose remove from sprint, Jira will prompt you to confirm this move to another sprint.  By default I believe it is selecting the next created sprint on that board that is not yet started.  Granted you still need to confirm if this is ok when removing it, but I suspect that what happened is that the sprint isn't actually deleted from Jira, but rather this sprint could have been originally created on a different board.

When this happens, that sprint can appear in your other board, provided that you have at least one issue that matches on the board filter that is assigned to that sprint.  But if you don't have anything assigned to that sprint from this board, AND that sprint wasn't created on this board, then the sprint won't appear here.

The other alternative is that the sprint was created on this board, but just had no issues created here.  If that was the case, you would have still seen this sprint on the backlog of the board, even before this change.

But when there is no future planned sprint that appears on this backlog, then moving issues out of the active sprint will instead prompt you to move the issue just to the backlog instead.

I hope this helps.

Andy
