Issue

Hi!
We are studying the Issue plugin. We need to make copies of Epic from the templates.
1. How can we create similar tasks from a template (clones).
2. How do we turn a template into tasks in a project?
3. How do we create Epic with the tasks included in it from the template?
What settings and permissions do we need to enable for this to work?
Thank you!

Hi @tolkit

Welcome to the Community :)

When you say you're studying the issue plugin, is this an app you're reviewing from the Marketplace? Or you're just trialling Jira in general?

You can achieve some of what you're looking to do in Jira as standard - for example:

  1. On an issue, select More > Clone
  2. You can create multiple tasks from a CSV file as a template - select Issues > Import Issues from CSV. Your CSV file must have at least a Summary, but then can set any other available field (eg. Issue Type)
  3. You can use the CSV file to create both an Epic and it's child issues - when uploading an Epic you need to provide an "Epic Name" - enter this into the "Epic Link" field within the CSV for child issues to link them together during upload

See more information on the file structure on this help page. Also for a more powerful import tool, you can use the External System Import as a Jira Admin via Jira Settings > System > External System Import.

^ If this is what you meant and you'd like further help, let us know.

We have a problem with "On an issue, select More > Clone".

Clone issue: TEMP-1

The clone link type "Cloners" does not exist. A link to the original issue will not be created.

Hi @tolkit

This means an Admin has removed the link type "Cloners" from the issue settings. It won't stop you from cloning an issue - it just means the clone and the original will not be linked together via the clone link type.

If you would like to recreate Cloners - you'll need to be a Jira Admin and then:

  1. Go to Jira Administration (cog icon in top-right corner, on the navigation bar)
  2. Select Issues
  3. On the left-hand menu, select Issue Linking
  4. Ensure the cloned link type hasn't just been renamed - if so, just edit its name back to "Cloners"
  5. If it's been deleted, scroll to the bottom and add a new link type - give it the name "Cloners", make the outward link description "clones" and the inward link description "is cloned by", then press Add

^ When you go back to a refreshed issue, the error should have disappeared.
