Issues in Released state and therefore "Done" status still show in backlog, despite correct workflow

We have an issue workflow where the DONE status is correctly placed at the far right of the workflow board (far right column) and two states are deemed as such: "Released" or "Closed/Cancelled". 

When looking at the backlog however, issues in Released state ("Done") still show up in our backlog.

Is there something missing in our configuration

Confirm the status of an issues  which you map in the column with the actual status of an issue.

Check in the JQL issue type  = Released.

Might possible that the status you put in the column is different that what you have on issue
