Issues' versions are not updated in Jira when running a Story Mapping on Jira Whiteboards

We are using Jira Whiteboard to run a Story Mapping, but when we assign issues to a release, the issues are not updated in Jira, so we have to go and assign them manually to the right version. 

Is that the intended functionality or is there a way that the issues would be updated automatically?
