JIRA Area Split

Hello!

Can I split an area in JIRA? The one existing remains there(only changes the name) and create a new one which would take some issues and some people from the initial one! I want the moved issues to remain the same(same assignee)!

Do you know what other problems should I follow? What difficulties am I going to encounter?
