JIRA - Can not change assignee on a card

Naama8283 September 6, 2020

Hello all,

I'm facing a strange case where I can not change the assignee of any card on our board.

I see the drop-down opens for a second but then it's closed again, and I have no option to choose another team member from the list.

Can anyone help me?

thanks in advance!

Hi,

I have exactly the same problem!

Last Friday, I was able to assign and re-assign tasks to my team as needed.

Today, for some reason, this option is no longer available to me on my Jira tasks.

I haven't changed any parameters on my profile at all.

Has there been a recent release of Jira, maybe over the weekend, that has changed the default configs somehow?

Thanks,

Sophie.

Hi @Naama8283

I'd ensure first you have the appropriate permissions:

Assign Issues:

  1. As a Project Admin, go to Project Settings > Permissions
  2. Check what user type is listed for "Assign Issues" - for example group, project role, reporter, etc
  3. Ensure you're in that user type. So if this is a project role, go to People from the left-hand menu and ensure you're listed against that role.

Browse Users and Groups:

  1. As a Jira Admin, go to Jira Settings > System > Global Permissions
  2. Check which groups are listed against the permission "Browse Users and Groups"
  3. Ensure you're in one of those groups - to check, go to Jira Settings > User Management, and view your user.

^ If you have these permissions is this happening for just you, or everyone on your instance (especially if they have the same permissions)? And is this Next-Gen or Classic?

I don't find the setting you mentioned.

Permissions? where is this? we are using Next-Gen

thanks!

Hi @Naama8283

For Next-Gen, Permissions differ:

  1. As a Project Admin, go to Project Settings > Access
  2. If you're using default roles, ensure you have the role Administrator or Member
  3. If you have custom roles, check to see what permissions your role has
  4. Select "Manage Roles" in the top-right and select the custom role related to your user
  5. Ensure the role has the permission "Assign any issue" - or the group of permissions under "Work on <Project> Issues"
  6. Or, from the same screen search for a role with the right permissions for assignment and ensure you have that role

The instructions for Browse Users and Groups still apply, as these are global permissions.
