JIRA - Creating a Multi-Select field that requires different field to be populated

Bill Davis February 28, 2012

We have a business need to create a JIRA Project that uses many fields (as most of our projects), but one of the items that we have a need for is a multi-select field to require other fields to be required which varies depending on the oiption that is selected, which is not part of the base JIRA options when creating a field.

As an example:

Field is called 'Audience', which has 3 options in the drop down - External, Internal and Both and is created as a Multi-Select field

If External is selected we require that the 'External Audience by Role' field is populated. but not the Internal

If Internal is selected we required that the 'Internal Audience by Role' field is populated, but not the External

Is there a way to do this as all I can find is to make the field required for all selections or required during a transition...any ideas or options that anyone has encountered?

Hi Bill, to me it's not quite clear yet why you want a multiselect field with three options. E.g. What shoulld happen if someone checks 'External' and 'both'. It would make more sense to me to either choose a radio button field with these three options or a multi select field with just the two options 'Iinternal' and 'External' so when you check both of them both fields should be filled. You might consider the behaviours plugin to do what you want. It hides the complexity of Javascript which is obviously necessary male the fields required depending on the selected option
