JIRA Lock and Re-Index took 12 hrs to complete 14%

I tried the Lock and Re-Index option for JIRA, but it ran for 12 hrs with just 14% completion. We are having a downtime because of this. We have tried restarting JIRA but it asks for the Re-Index again.

System Info:

No. of issues: 42000

Server RAM: 8GB

DB Size: 3.5 GB

Can you please help me debug this issue?
