JIRA Server ID is in different format

booth-bro October 13, 2020

I recently purchased a 10-user JIRA Server license. However, I can't retrieve the license from MyAtlassian account as the Server ID of my JIRA Server instance (deployed on a CentOS VM) is in a different format (8-4-4-4-12). On MyAtlassian page, the example Server ID format shown is in the 4-4-4-4 format. As the result, I can’t get the JIRA Server license I purchased. I created a ticket on JIRA Support. They requested my SEN number and the screenshot of my System Info page. After two day back and forth, they asked me to post the issue in Atlassian Community for help.

Hi,

Sorry to hear about this problem.  There is actually a known bug that can sometimes cause this behavior when migrating from a Jira Cloud site into a Jira Server/Data Center installation.  We are tracking this bug in JRASERVER-66787.

In the meantime, we have a work-around listed on that bug ticket where you can generate a new temporary install in order to obtain a new server ID, and then follow the steps in Changing Server ID for Test Installations - Atlassian Documentation in order to use SQL so that you can update the Server ID to the correct format needed for Server installations.

Once you have updated this, you can then restart Jira and you will find that it then has a valid format for the server ID that can used in order to generate a license key in our https://my.atlassian.com site.

Please let me know if you run into any problems with this.

Hello Andy,

Thanks for providing this amazing answer and helping Atlassian Community.

I understand how to execute the steps of the solution but I'm thinking about the new value of the Server ID, should it be a unique from any other server in the world or should it be fine if I use any server ID.

Thanks,

Qusai Atoon.

The workaround instructional in the bug ticket recommend creating a new install, this is done so because we know it will create a server ID in a valid format AND that server ID won't be in use elsewhere.

Technically it might work to copy the server ID from any other existing server ID, but we don't recommend this because the support and maintenance of that license will record the server ID that was used to generate the license key.  It might confuse the account aspects here if the same server ID is being used to generate multiple license keys.

Yes, I ended up creating a new temporary instance and I used it's ID.

Thanks for the explanation.
