Hi
I am restoring a backup from jira on windows system into jira installed on linux.
Per the documentation here https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/Restoring+Data
In point#4
The Index Path field indicates where JIRA will restore the search index data from the zipped XML backup file. This location (which cannot be modified) matches the index path specified in the zipped XML backup file. If, however, this backup file does not specify an index path, JIRA will restore the search index to the caches/indexes
subdirectory of the JIRA Home Directory.
If there is a index path in backup set for windows what will happen in linux environment. How do we handle this situaton.
Please let me know.
Thanks
Abe
Hi Abe,
JIRA will see that the original path does not match with the current system and will ask you if you want to import using the default path (JIRA-Home/caches/indexes). You can just click yes, and you should be all set then. :)

Hello Zulfadli
Thanks for the response. Index path in windows backup is some thing like c:\Program files\Atlassian\JIRA\data\xx\xx where as in linux it will be /var/atlassian/application-data/jira/xx if JIRA tries to index in the path zipped file path which is c:\Program files\Atlassian\JIRA\data\xx\xx on linux box will it not be a problem?
Can anyone please explain:
how this index path is stored when taking a backup and restoring from backup across different environments.
Thanks
Abe

You don't need to worry about indexing caches during server migrating. When you run the restoration process via the XML backup, it will always run a re-indexing after the successful data import. The indexing caches will gets populated.
