JIRA cloud client users with restrictive access.

My one team uses internal application(lets say it BIT) specific for tickets/bugs/task management. We sometimes share boards with our clients, to raise tickets/bugs for any projects which are under review.

We are also using JIRA in other team and wanted to shift from internal application(BIT) to JIRA, majorly; to have everything in one place so that we can include those tickets in our sprint planning.

One of the key feature that BIT provides is isolation to client's accounts, they can not see others projects. Access is restricted to their projects only.

Is it possible to have something similar in JIRA cloud? - client account with restricted access only to specific projects?

Yes, it's possible to restrict specific users' access to specific projects in Jira. This requires you to make sure your projects all have a permission scheme with roles set, and that you assign your clients' user accounts to the projects/roles they should have access to.

The documentation for permissions is here; it can be complex if you're not familiar with Jira administration.

Here are the basic steps that your Jira admin will need to follow:

1. Create project roles as needed - you may have one role for Client and one for Internal, or some other breakdown.
2. Create a permission scheme that all of your projects share.
   1. Assign permissions in the scheme to your roles as desired.
   2. Make sure the Browse Projects permission is NOT assigned to "Application access (Any logged in user)" - include the project roles explicitly.
   3. Associate the permission scheme with all your existing projects.
3. Assign the correct users to each of the project roles in each project.

Once all of these steps are completed initially, it's much easier to maintain going forward. You just make sure that any new projects that are created use the existing permission scheme, and make sure any new users who are added to your system are added to the projects they need with the role they need.
