We have bought a 100 users license, my question will the internal JIRA directory with LDAP authentication work with my scenario:

>Need to be able to create groups other than the one in Active Directory and then I want to be able to assign group permissions.

>In case I choose this option, As I understood from documentation, I need to create users one by one manually.

Your advice please.

In JIRA you can have both:

- An internal directory (with users and groups)

- An externel AD/LDAP directory (with users and groups)

Link: http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA044/Configuring+User+Directories

Now just choose "Read Only, with Local Groups" in the Permission Settings of the external Directory

Docu is here: http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA044/Connecting+to+an+LDAP+Directory

You end having all users from your external directory and being able to assign them individually to local jira groups.
Make sure to have configured the option "Default Group Memberships": By adding "jira-users" group here. Now every user is at least a "jira-user" when logging in.

Hope this helps,

Philipp

And if a user is deleted from LDAP (they leave the company), will JIRA automatically delete the copy of their account from its internal DB? I would assume not, but I'm brand new and just getting a grasp on user management.

Thank you,

Zach
