JIRA email notification scheme: exlude a certain group

I would like to exclude a certain group of users from receiving notification email.
Since the users in that group can create issues they are automatically watchers. That is OK.

Is there any chance to get this working within JIRA?

I'm afraid that this is not possible in JIRA. You can either remove all watcher from getting a notification, but not watchers from specific groups.
