JIRA server - ability to add text or code snippets dynamically?

JIRA Server 7.9.2

Is there any functionality that would enable us to add code or text snippets against a JIRA ticket directly as opposed to having to save them externally as attachments and then upload them?

The functionality we are looking for is similar to the one offered by Slack where you can add a "code or text snippet" and preferably JIRA would store it as an attachment?
