Jira Captcha Infinite loop - Re-opened 04/01/2022

When users enter their details and press signup, it hangs indefinitely. Some users cannot get past the captcha (even when correctly entered) and therefore access is impossible.

Answering the Captcha correctly doesn't move users onto the next stage of signup, which is the expected outcome.

Are there any workarounds

• Some users can clear cookies and continue to use as normal
• Some users can get past the captcha by using an in-private browsing session (this is inconvenient, as we have a separate security service that also needs to be signed into when accessing the internet for the first time. With in-private browsing this is needed every time)
• The notes from Atlassian in this 2019 post have been attempted

Possible theories

1. The network connections (wired office vs remote VPN connections) are being assessed to check for any common patterns

The following are not providing workarounds. I am trying with different VPNs

Trying Chrome

1. in-private browsing (VPN a)
2. in-private vpn b
3. Delete browser cookies vpn a
4. Delete cookies vpn b

Trying FireFox

1. Still does not work

I have been able to give affected users 3 options to try

• Option 1 – in-private browsing
• Option 2 – Delete browser cookies
• Option 3 – Try a completely new browser

After attempts made today (10/12/2021) I can confirm that completing the captcha in a new browser, or one not previously used, has worked.

The user had success with the Chrome browser.
