Jira Custom Field Searchable (not sortable)

Hello,

I've created a custom field as a Select List Multiple Choice.  I want to be able to search it via any text within it (i.e. option is "Employee", if I search 'loy" I would like it to show up.  Instead I have to search Emp, sortable).  

How do I make this possible?  I've noticed for JSD Portal it works the correct way and also that the Multi-Issue selector works the way I'd like but that is only for issues.

How can I get a custom field to mirror that functionality?
