Jira DC: Can not delete Jira internal caches

Omid H. December 13, 2020

Dear colleagues,

we updated Jira Server to Jira Data Center and changed the host to AWS and changed the data base type from MSSQL to Postgre and have two notes.

We deleted the "Groovy class loader" and it works fine, but if we want to delete "Jira internal caches" it failed and Jira database was corrupted. We have to restore the whole instance with backup file.

In logs are nothing, but db was destroyed.

Did you face this issue?

Big thanks in advance!

Br,
Omid

Hi @Omid H.,

AFAIK, clearing the Jira cache would not corrupt the database.

  1. You mentioned that the operation failed. How do you know it failed, was there any error shown on the UI?
  2. How do you know the Jira database was corrupted?

I have done this multiple times on a JDC with 3 nodes and have not seen any issue with the operation. As mentioned by the vendor itself in Clear Jira or Groovy Caches:

Clear Jira Internal Caches - Clear Jira internal caches after changing something in the backend such as modifying a database table. Clearing the internal cache is safe for use on production environments, as the cache is cleared during enabling/disabling of plugins.

It's pretty safe to use in the Production environment, however, I would recommend doing this after office hours/low usage period.

Thanks,
Moga

1) The Error message was "failed"

2) You can not restart the application. After restoring process it was possible.

What is the error in the Jira logs when you restarted the node?
