In one of my Jira's next-gen project, I do not see any option to start/edit/modify the sprint. I have Sprint enabled as a feature and have admin access to the project. Am I missing something? I tried disabling/enabling sprint features, moving a few cards to sprint from backlog, old and new navigation, etc.
Update: Able to edit the sprint via API.
Hello Mayank,
Welcome to Atlassian Community!
When enabling the Backlog and Sprint on a next-gen project, it should appear the option to start a sprint from the backlog.
Testing on my local site, the option is available for Administrators and Members of the project.
Can you please share with us a screenshot of the backlog? Just make sure to hide any private information.
Regards,
Angélica
Hi Angélica,
I see this option in my other next-gen project as well. Only for one, it is not allowing me to do anything with sprint on the backlog page.
As you can see in this screenshot of the backlog page, I have 6 issues in the sprint but no option to do anything on the right side of the page. I have admin access to the project.
However, I did start the sprint via API and can see the edit option on board. This is not a very convenient way to start sprint though. Comparing with your screenshot, it is not showing those estimates on the right side either.

Thank you for the details, Mayank.
I was able to replicate the issue by editing the role on the project and removing "Manage sprint" permission.
The roles created by Jira can't be edited or deleted, so maybe another administrator created a new role for Administrators, and the permission to manage sprint was removed.
Please, go to Project settings > Access > Manage roles and confirm if there is only one Administrator role.
If you are part of another role, since you are an administrator, you can add yourself to the system role "Administrator" that has the permission to manage sprint.

Hi Angélica,
Thanks for the response and for looking into this.
I do not think there was any change in role setting.
I have both member and admin role and I tried switching to the Admin role alone as well. Where can I confirm if the default `Administrator` role has "Manage sprint" permission?

On the Access page, click on Manage roles:
Then, you can click on the roles to check the permissions and confirm if the Manage Sprints were marked. Both Member and Administrator should have this permission.

Thank you for the screenshot, Mayank.
Testing here starting a sprint using API, it didn't affect the options on the UI, so what you did shouldn't cause the button and the options to edit sprint to disappear from the UI.
Since you are an administrator on the project and is a licensed Jira Software user, you should see the options on the Backlog. I'm guessing that it should be some wrong permission or there was a problem when the project was created.
To better investigate the issue, the best option would be to create a ticket with our support, so with your consent, we can access your Jira site, and also if you allow, we can impersonate your user to check if the same issue happens.
Since you are a site administrator, you can create the ticket, so please, go to support.atlassian.com/contact and create a ticket adding the tests you already made and add the link to this question as well.
