Jira Plan Suggestion to add JQL as a filtering option

matt_smith August 27, 2024

This is a feature suggestion. In Jira Plan on Jira Cloud, the filtering options are quite limited. What's worse is that each of the filters are blanket `AND` operations, so you can't do any complicated `NOT IN` operations.

Please add the option to just use JQL to define how to filter the view in Jira Plan.

Examples where JQL would be easier:

  • When there are hundreds of options to select it's not feasible to click everything relevant, those lists may be dynamic requiring constant monitoring. For example, finding all issues that do not have a specific label, you can't do that.
  • If you want a filter to only apply to one hierarchy level and not to the others you can't do that. Though this is feasible with raw JQL.

Hi @matt_smith,

Great that you're raising a suggestion to improve the Plan's functionality. Unfortunately, this community forum is unlikely to get that suggestion on the team's roadmap.

Back in April last year, Atlassian shared this Community article explaining how to submit feature requests to them. In short, you can either:

  • use the “give feedback” options in our products, either from the help menu or via special feedback buttons for new features; or

  • open a support ticket via the Atlassian Support portal (if you are a product administrator).

I would recommend trying out either of these channels, so you can also follow up further what happens.

(though there are quite a few Atlassian employees out here, the Community drives to a large extent on product and process enthusiasts - like myself - who don't work for Atlassian and have limited impact on the product roadmap or feature requests).

Hope this helps!
