Is the functionality to restrict specific customer requests to be visible only to selected/specified groups native with Jira Service Desk Cloud, or is the "Extension for Jira Service Management" add-on needed to do this as is the case with Jira/JSD for Server?

Thanks Tom, I was asking for customer request type visibility limitation on Jira Cloud. We currently use a similar app to yours to achieve this in server, but it is unavailable in the cloud. Do you know what the issue is with this feature in the cloud? I would assume that Jira Cloud can use the same user group configuration to limit visibility of request types as in server instances.

There is no API to control the visibility of the request types. Without that, we are not able to implement this feature in our app on the Cloud, unfortunately.
