Jira Task REST API

Thomas A June 25, 2024

Hello, a few days ago I removed a dummy task in order to verify a query for the Jira REST API. However, it appears that the REST API caught the removed job when I checked the query today. Is it anticipated that the REST API would record a deleted task? Because a lot of people claim that tasks that are deleted won't be kept in databases or REST APIs

Hi @Thomas A

Without a lot more context, the community may not be able to offer suggestions on your question.

For example...

  • what problem are you trying to solve (i.e., "why do this"),
  • what version of Jira are you using (i.e., Cloud, Server, Data Center),
  • which REST API endpoints are you calling,
  • how are you calling these endpoints (e.g., custom app, automation rule, etc.), and
  • when are you calling them relative to when the issue was deleted?

There is an event for deleting an issue, which could be monitored with a site webhook.  Are you doing something with that?

If that does not help, perhaps check for similar questions in the Developer Community: https://community.developer.atlassian.com/

Kind regards,
Bill
