Jira Upgrade from 6.4.10 to the latest one?

Pete75 July 9, 2018

We need to upgrade Our current Jira version 6.4.10 to the latest one?

In upgrade guide there is following statement:

"If you're upgrading from a version of JIRA earlier than 7.0, you should consult the Migration hub. The release of JIRA 7.0 contained functionality that affects your user management, application access and log in permissions, and your JIRA installations setup, and it's very important that you understand the requirements and the implications before you upgrade. The Migration hub has all this information in one handy space."

Has anyone upgraded from Jira 6.X.X to latest Jira lately?  I would like to know possible challenges you faced or did the upgrade went smoothly?  Or anything else what I should look for?

Also I would like to mention that Our user credentials come from Crowd (Version2.8.3)

Thanks

-Pete

Hi @Pete75,

as far as I can remember, you should go from 6.4 (latest version) to 7.0.0 and than to your JIRA latest version.

Do you use JIRA Agile? The migration to JIRA Software can come with some troubles.

Best wishes

Thanks for a response!

Yes we use Jira Agile. Is that a problem?

No, it's not a problem, but it does mean you need to move to "Jira Software" rather than "Jira Core".

The Agile plug-in goes away with Jira 7, but Jira Software is a direct replacement for it (it's mostly the same thing, and will bring across all your Agile data, but it is packaged as an "Application" instead of a "plug in")

One question:

This was suggested above:

"as far as I can remember, you should go from 6.4 (latest version) to 7.0.0"

But should I take the latest 7.0 version (7.0.11)  as I think it might contain some important fixes to upgrade etc..

Yes, 7.0.11 is the best option.
