From a Zephyr test step I can create a defect - a new Issue with issue type Bug.

In de defect I see the number of the Bug. However in the Bug I don't see the number of the belonging teststep. What do I do wrong?

Hello Ronald,

With the native functionality of Zephyr for JIRA the defects filed at Execution level will create a link to the testcase and those under teststeps will not create a link to the testcase as the teststeps are mapped to the execution and not to testcase and are referenced with their id.

If you want the link to be made for such defects that can be done in two ways by a workaround as below. 
1. Adding the Created defects at step level to the execution level defects which will show the link in bug also

2. By Linking the testcase while creating defect from Create issue screen using the Linked Issues field of JIRA
