Jira avatars stopped working on next-gen project

At some point last week the little circles on issues with peoples faces on them turned into little circles with their initials, as if they didn't upload an avatar. Other older "previous-gen" projects still seem to work fine.

A colleague with a different OS and browser has the same issue. I also created a new next-gen project as a test and it appears to suffer the same issue.

Has something recently broken with next-gen projects in general? or did our Jira settings change somehow?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Hi @Ian Colwell,

This might be related to the changes that Atlassian did to how they handle Atlassian accounts, see this thread for more information.

You can try and go to Atlassian account profile and change the setting on the picture (mine already was set to Anyone, so had to switch to private and back again for it to work) and then log out and back in again to Jira. Hopefully that will do the trick.

I saw comments regarding Atlassian Community avatars disappearing that is probably related to Jira Cloud.

Basically Atlassian has made changes to privacy settings, so you need to check your profile settings and make sure your profile photo is set to be viewed by Anyone. If it is already on that setting, just change it from Anyone to Only You, then back again. Log out of Jira and log in again and the avatar should return.
